Paul, I have done this and can tell you that the hair dryer just does not
get hot enough to do the job well. I finally broke down and bought a heat
gun. Prior to that I just held my soldering iron close (careful not to
touch). But, I can tell you a heat gun will be a GREAT investment around
the house. I use mine 90% for non-electronic stuff. 2 weeks ago it was
heating the adhesive so I could get old vinyl floor up. In the summer it
was relaxing that black edging stuff that came from the store in a roll and
didn't want to lay straight. I too tried to avoid buying one. But, now
that I have one, I wished I hadn't waited so long.
Thanks my $.02

Subject: [motm] first module
I just received and built my first MOTM module, the 110 VCA/RM. Building
went without a hitch (aside from my kids getting away with a couple of
resistors when I wasn't looking), and it seems to work fine so far.
Is there any reason not to use an ordinary hair dryer if a proper heat
gun isn't available?
Thanks Paul,
