Mark. Guitar pickups are VERY high impedance, and when they get loaded too
much the result is the same as the LP filter effect you speak of. I assume
that you were doing a direct cable to cable comparison connected to the
guitar amp.
I am not familiar with the starquad cable you are talking about. Why is it
called starquad? Does it have more than one wire inside the shield? One of
the problems with cable can be inter-element capacitance. What might work
OK for the synth, could be a problem with guitar. I would suggest that it
is not your soldering, but maybe this cable (even if it is good quality) is
not suitable for guitar use. To test this, you could run the guitar through
a preamp or effect unit so the cable is between the effect and amp and not
actually connected to the guitar. See if this makes any difference.,

i've made many cables including my MOTM ones and
i'm a bit concerned. i just listened to one of the longer
cables i made, going from elec gtr to amp, and it sounded
like there was a LP filter on the guitar: so much highs
and presence was just not there, compared to a spectraflex
that we compared it with.
i'm using canare starquad and neutrik ends. i guess my
results are from poor soldering ? advice?
