I cannot stress enough how much I rely on my pets for this. My first cat,
Hopey, was proficient at catching fuzzy balls and throwing them back to me,
so I taught her to roll coins. Now my bank requires that I write the account
number on the roll, and she can't really do that. But she was quite ready
for the modular. I now have three (of five) cats who will tweak on cue.
The dogs are pretty good too, though neither of them can last an entire
all-night session obviously, and it does ruin the flow to have to run them
downstairs for their, er, flow. You can imagine my terror when I discovered
(twice!) that they had turned on the oven in our absence. But I quickly
turned it into a positive (hey, a knob's a knob, right?) in the studio.
Obviously the biggest problem is deciding to use the cats OR the dogs. They
definitely don't play well together for the most part. One of the cats likes
the dogs (and they don't bother her), so she does well stretched atop the
two cases, batting knobs from above, while the dogs stand on their hind legs
and tweak with noses and paws from below.
None of the animals is MIDI-enabled.
