Subject: MOTM/MIDI

All,
being a list devoted to analog modulars, many of us probably love to hate
MIDI, but MIDI is reality for most electronic musicians today. Sure there
are many companies out there who make MIDI/CV converters for us to use, but
as you know most of these are designed to drive a monosynth from some MIDI
device. MiDI carries more information than simple cv/gate, we need to
harness this power!! A modular is no mere monosynth with vco and vcf ins.
Oh no a modular is more than a synth even!! its an fx box a mixer a synth its
anything your imagination makes it. and MOTM is by far the best of the
modulars! Paul, with all the filters and soon the clock divider, has a great
attractive set of modules so far to entice non-modular people to incorporate
MOTM into their setups. But most people (except the sampler group) are
scared off about spending alot of money for something that couldn't be easily
integrated into their studio. With a proper super MIDI interface module i'd
bet many more people would be drawn into the world of MOTM because they could
see the integration possibilities. I mean, I paid over 200 bucks for a
kenton ProSolo. one channel cv/gate.. built in LFO yippee.. RIPOFF!! So
why are we settling on using converters designed for old synths!?!?! What
about todays synth of all synths? doesn't it deserve the best?
ENOUGH! WE NEED MORE POWER!!!
so I have an idea.
MOTM 990 MIDI Dissector
--sure it outputs cv/gate...
--but it also has 8 assignable outs.
these normally would be set up to send out a gate when it's assingned MIDI
note is recieved. This would be great for triggering drums or any other
module needing a gate. These 8 outs could be configured to output a gate
upon recieving a note-on message of the proper key, or assigned to output a
gate on note-off. or assigned to output a trig on note on or off or both.
Imagine programming a MIDI track for this to control your synth what fun,
what power!! They could also be assigned to output a CV responding to any
assigned MIDI cc.. knobs, aftertouch, velocity, pedals, ribbons, Kaoss pads,
whatever other cheesy MIDI controllers are out there.. anything that sends
MIDI.
--there would also be an output which would spit out trig pulses according to
MIDI clock.. great for Paul's new vc pulse divider module. think of the sync..
--Switches on front panel to switch between modes or MIDI channel or whatever
else
--VC MIDI track select
--Memory to store your settings/configurations (program changes or a CV would
select between the stored configs)

Sure most of these features are available on other machines, but not all of
them are available on one. one that would fit in your synth. one that would
allow total MIDI control of many parameters. Think about it!! you could
send a program change to the module which would switch the settings which
could switch (viaMOTM700's or vca's) your whole patch!! With a module like
this the possibilities would be only limited by your imagination..
A MOTM EXCLUSIVE!!!!
thoughts?

ideas are easy... I have no idea how to get it to work.. anyone out there
know MIDI DIY well?
