So, I talked to my friend who works for Kurzweil and he said that the Ribbons are
very digitally oriented. He didn't have many details except to say that there are
three separate sections in the large ribbons used in the K2500, K2600, and
ExpressionMate. He didn't think it would be very easy to get a pure analog signal
out of it. He thought the only thing that would change is the software to enable
more features. I told him that it wasn't possible to use one standalone to generate
smoothed note data (note-on + pitchbend). He said he would check into it further
and agreed that paying ~$500 for the ribbon plus ~$300 for the MIDI/CV did seem a
bit out of whack for an analog ribbon. Such is life as an analog being in a digital
world....
