The article is in the November 1986 issue of Electronic Musician. I'll try
to post it to a web site soon. The circuit was basically a 4 bit flash A/D
built from a 4 stage comparator, and joined to a 4 stage binary counter for
division by 1 through 16. If I were to redo the circuit today I'd probably
put a binary/trinary prescaler on the input and extend the VC divide through
32. You could do most of that with an A/D and a CPLD.
