Hi!
I am a new member to this mail list and a new MOTM customer. I just ordered
the Analogue Heaven system 2 package discount (kit) so I expect to be
merrily soldering away in a few days!
As it turns out, I already know two people on the list (Hi Fred! Hi Dave!).
I've searched the archives extensively to catch up. Some pretty interesting
modules are ahead of us.
I also looked for racking solutions. I'm a lousy carpenter, so I'll
probably buy a premade 20U rack unit from Raxxess or Omnirax. I don't like
the excess depth of these units, 16" to 23", but since I'm planning to build
this system pretty high (20U) it's probably safer to go this route so the
unit doesn't tip over when pushing patch cords into it. Any comments on
that? I'm planning on putting a Synthesizers.com sequencer in the rack to
control the MOTM, unless anyone has a better suggestion. I will save MIDI
control for later, right now I prefer to keep this system under analog,
non-keyboard control.
My experience goes back to the Electronotes days. That was a major
inspiration for resuming my education, resulting in a BSEE in 1985. I built
and designed a few modular circuits back then, including a voltage
controlled divider published as a DIY circuit in Electronic Musician.
Unfortunately, the physical labor involved in hand fabricating PCBs and
front panels was just too intensive for me to sustain. By the late 1980s it
was impossible to find a new or used modular system in the non-name county I
lived in, so I ended up going the MIDI route. Still, the desire to design
some analog or hybrid analog/digital modules is there, so I may just have to
pick up the MOTM prototyping kit and have some fun.
I'm looking forward to feedback that the MOTM mailing list can provide.
