I defer to Paul on that one. I can say tell you that in a statistics class
(or probability, I forget which) about ten years ago the instructor informed
us that several books referred to the Gaussian distribution as the bell
curve, but some high school and undergraduate books were calling it the
"mound shaped distribution."
New meaning to the term "top of the heap!"
