Subject: RE: [motm] MOTM-ing the perfect 909 kick

You don't really need much--a couple of self-oscillating filters and EGs
will work pretty well, or a couple of oscillators and EGs.

Basically you want to sweep the pitch (cutoff on filter, 1V/oct on osc)
relatively quickly with an EG. The self-oscillating filter works fine
because the 909 kick is a sine wave. The second oscillator is used to
produce a short, sharp click which you would mix with the larger kick sound
to taste. This duplicates the "attack" control on the tr-909 kick.

So: external trigger into mult (or use two simultaneous triggers from the
same device)
trigger one into EG1 with 0 attack, play with decay, tiny bit of release?
(or just use as AR?)
trigger two into EG2 with everything set to 0 or damned close
EG1 into 1V/oct or FM1 input of osc1, tuned to taste, use sine output; EG1
also into VCA
EG2 into 1V/oct or FM1 input of osc2, tuned "medium," use square output; EG2
also into VCA2
osc2 into VCA2
mix VCAs at mixer?

Adjust EG2 decay to make click audible but very fast
Adjust EG1 decay for kick decay.
Adjust osc1 FM1 (if you're using that) for amount of sweep, also called
"tune" on tr-909

Messing with this basic configuration (even without the second audio source
for "click") will get you all kinds of great kick sounds.
