If you wire it directly in parallel to the Gate jack, you will certainly
light the LED but you will not gate the instrument. You need to add a series
resistor to the LED. Try a few K ohms. It will be dim though.
Note: If you are driving insruments that need to be upwards of 10 volts for
the gate, the LED will prevent it from working.
