I used to work for a sound contractor, and every five years or so we would
pull amplifiers out of big installations for "servicing." This would involve
checking the tubes, then taking the amps outside and hosing them down, inside
and out. Then we would let them dry in the sun for a day or so, bring them
inside for another few days, and then hook them back up in the racks.
Of course these were the old green Altec tube amps, which were built with
very good quality components and chromed chassis. To my knowledge these amps
are still being used in these installs.
