I think it's easy to phase-shift a fixed-frequency sine wave. Basically, you
just slap an integrator on it and tweak values to taste.

But with more complex waveforms, and/or with waves that change frequency, I
think it becomes a nightmare. As I understand it, that's the real hard part
in designing a Frequncy Shifter; you get involved with dome filters, hilbert
transforms, and all sorts of other buzz words that become a blur in my
delusional psyche.

Yes, I think you are delusional. Just to say I'm in the same boat, let
me
ask some "is there any easy way to do that"

Is there an easy way to shift an AC signal by 90 degrees? In principal,
it
seems like such an easy thing. However, I understand how principal and
reality often differ. In principal, it should be easy to live with a
woman
that you love. In practice, they make it very difficult at times (like
mine, right now).

In the land of 60 Hz and big wire where I live when I am not here, we
can
attach an inductive or capacitive load to the AC voltage and cause the
current to lead or lag the voltage by some percentage (depending on how
capacitive or inductive the load. It would seem to me any voltage
developed across the resistive part of that load would be in phase with
that current, and hence shifted some from the original voltage.

What am I missing here?
