After that post about Raymond Scott, I ordered the 'Turkish Twilights' disc
and the three 'Soothing Sounds' discs. 'Soothing' #'s 1 & 3 are on
backorder, but the one I did get is pretty neat, simple, minimal stuff (the
wife ran in at one point where there was just this kind of percussive
ostinato for long minutes yelling, "What's that sound!?!?" Funny, she can
sleep through the smoke detector going off, never turns the furnace down,
leaves the garage door open all night.... But if I put on any of my
electronic music albums, she goes into a panic that there's something wrong
with the house. Maybe I should key the smoke alarms and burglar system to
start up Subotnick's "Silver Apples" or Vangelis' "Beauborg.").
I'm pretty happy with the Raymond Scott stuff, though; got to get that
"Manhattan Research, Inc." CD.

A few weeks ago someone posted a site for Raymond Scott.
I went to the site and ordered the CD "Manhattan Research, Inc.".
I received the CD over the weekend and recommend it heartily to those
interested in Electronic music history. It is hard to imagine that this man
could create such sounds using equipment that predates Moog, ARP or any of
the other Synths we are all familiar with. A shame he never got the
recognition he deserved.
much of the cd contents are old comercials which, in themselves, are quite
nostalgic. Remarkable work.
