Subject: RE: [motm] algorithmic composition software - Mac?

For those of you interested in algorithmic composition on the WinTel
platform, I'd like to point out a new interesting product from Sound Quest
(http://www.squest.com/), the makers of the editor/librarian software,
called "Infinity."

It isn't an algo-comp program; rather it is a kind of object-oriented
programming environment for MIDI that lets you string together different
doodads at a high level to alter or produce MIDI events. Think of it as the
Nord Modular except instead of synth modules it has MIDI primitives: an
output object, input object, different operators, timers, etc.

"Compiled" setups can even run inside of other apps, like an OLE kind of
thing, and has features specifically tailored to Cakewalk for those of us
that use that sequencer.

I picked up a copy because I figured it could be used for AC, but then the
baby was born and I haven't even cracked the book yet, so I can't give any
great first-hand accounts yet. But I bought it because I envisioned
stringing different modules together to create algorithmic music, etc.

If this sounds interesting to anybody, take a look at it at the above
address. I'd love to see what others come up with.

(Anybody noticed that motm@onelist.com appears to have changed to
motm@egroups.com today....?)
