Subject: Cables and other stuff..

all,
I built my first batch of patch cables for my MOTM last night. Theyre very
nice, Im proud. 10 3 foot cables color coded in 5 colors. I wound up using
DGS pro fromMouser. Single conductor plus shield, nice, thick rubber
insulation (maybe PVC) twisted shield (not braided), stranded conductor.
Very nice cable for the purpose, the thick insulation really lets the plugs
grip the insulation when you crimp them. From mouser. 15 meters for a
little under 15 bucks.
also I got my two "IBM pc jr" joysticks from Elec. Goldmine a few days ago.
Nice long travel on the stick, spring detachable on either or both axes, two
push buttons. I havent opened then up.. Okay im opening one up right
now... lets see.. Surgeon: "Phillips"
"thank you"
Okay, goodie, no circut board.. two 100k noble pots.. two N.O. momentary
buttons, the pots share a common wire on their left tap, they have separate
center tap wires... the buttons share a common wire so we have 6 wires all
together 3 for the pots and 3 for the buttons.. the wire shared by both pots
and the wire shared by both switches (the red wire and the brown wire) are
both connected to the main cable's braided shield by caps labled "684Z" so
there are 6 wires going down the cable (one for each pot's center tap, and
one shared by both pots left tap, one from each button and one commmn between
the switches.) the cable is terminated in with a what looks like a Waldom "C
grid" female. Its basically a rectangle with 8 small square holes in it..
only 6 are used of course. Encased in metal.
Ooooh a date too Jan 27 1984 definitely vintage.. ; )
so basically this thing looks to be pretty great for our purpose, especailly
at under 2 bucks each. No circuts to messwith its simply 2 switches and 2
pots on a long cord in a tan grey box. Awesome.
Since paul has all the CEM's in the world, maybe he would buy up all of these
and get us a generic CV/trigger source module with sockets to mate with
these. Get a standard for MOTM going so we could plug in out DIY keyboards,
ribbons, etc into this with no fuss.
hope this helps,
~Steve
oh yeah, anyone have any info about the MOAS? wanna share with us Paul?
