I'm not sure what wood I'm going to use. I have a woodworker friend that
has a good stock of wood from lots of local trees that he had milled for him
very cheaply. My Moog modular is sitting on a stand made from a swamp maple
from my backyard! The most important part seems to be to get the stain
similar. Minwax Dark Walnut seems to be the ticket for me. I would also add
a few coats of clear polyurethane to protect it.

One important trick for your lowest cabinet or stand if you put it on a
table: Get some furniture felt and put it on the bottom so you can slide
your wall-o-modular out to get at the back of it. You can buy sheets of
this stuff at Home Depot and cut it to any shape. It is sticky on one side
and it stays in place very well. I have this on the bottom of my modular
stand and it allows me to slide the whole thing forward with ease.
