I have no problem with SMT. Maybe an idea I've seen some 'semi-kit' mfgr's do: sell boards stuffed with all the SMT parts, and add a bag with the through-hole parts (connectors, pots, switches, perhaps cables). That would still give you some DIY satisfaction while on the other hand getting things done...
I'm not really an old-timer here, and even less of a poster. I was subscribed to this list for a while, but only started my MOTM system when Paul did the 2.0 sale in 2006. Got lots of nice kits then which all slowly :-) got delivered since then. Just finished the '480 Paul sent me a couple of months ago. Definitely a welcome addition!
Love the MOTM format (including Oakley, Fritz, etc.). I'm building some Buchla-type modules, but it feels a lot cheaper and crowded. Never been a fan of Euro, too crowded too and often built with cheap parts. I hate wobbly pots.
Been fixing/checking some 1996 Don Martin Moog 901 modules tonight. Very nicely built too. Quite interesting to turn the octave selector, and then being more than a full note off...
Kind regards,
Ben
