Hey all,
I cannot recall the last time I posted, but I have been watching and reading this group for quite a while, even since my MOTM modules and I have parted ways(long, sad story). I have learned a lot and value the input throughout the years while 'learning' modular synthesis.
Well, many years later and a career change or two and I find myself in the unique position to be able to write and design a course(s) in electronic music for a new Music Production Technology program at a College I am now teaching at.
I would welcome advice, comments and especially suggested materials for research etc. that this community has found valuable during your careers. I am dealing with students who have never seen an analog synth and generally just deal with presets on some sort of VI.
The very rough outline is to have the course deal with a general history and development of the modular synth, semi-modular, etc - all the way through the cross-over to VI's. I will also deal with MIDI, (the lead up to MIDI -- KADI, CV -- etc) on some level. Of course the various modules and what they are and how the function and their relationship to any current synth design.
Right now this could be between a 1 and 3 credit hour course depending on how deep I want to go. So, no suggestions are too advanced or novice, and any opinions are welcome. I really welcome practical ideas and insights.
Thanks for your time and I am looking forward to your responses.
Feel free to send me a pm, since this is a bit off-topic for Paul's group.
