Subject: Bridechamber MOTM-480 Troubleshooting

For people with MOTM-480 boards from Bridechamber with unpopulated trim pots TP1 and TP2:

The word from Paul is TP1 and TP2 are 20 KOhms Bourns 3386 trimmers 3386P-1-203LF but 10K resistors can be used across pads 1 and 3 (see pictures).

There is also a problem with the orientation of Q1 and Q2. Due to an improper entry in OrCAD for the Analog Devices SSM2220P, an incorrect pinout was used when designing this earlier version of the MOTM-480 board. Data sheet for the SSM220P: http://www.analog.com/static/imported-files/data_sheets/SSM2220.pdf. On the board, pads 1, 8 and 3, 6 are swapped (as discovered with a continuity tester). Since the SSM220P is symmetrical and pins 4, 5 are unused, there is an easy fix:

Cut or lift pins 4 and 5 (NC)
Rotate Q1 and Q2 180 degrees
Align Q1 and Q2 forward by one pin towards the top of the board
Insert pin 6 into pad 1, pin 7 into pad 2, etc... (see pictures)

Q1 and Q2 must be rotated for proper placement of the emitters and collectors.

I am not sure if there are other inconsistencies with the board and the assembly manual. This is what I could figure out after talking with Paul and tracing some of the connections on the board. This corrected my module as far as I am aware. I do not have another MOTM-480 to compare to. Paul would like everyone to know he will provide a solution by Monday, 3/19.
