Most clips I've heard using the MOTM-485 reflect the "dirty" aspect of the filter, especially the examples on the MOTM website, which in my opinion would send most prospective buyers into screaming fits, running with hands clasped painfully over their bleeding ears.

So I bought 2, and found that the character changes dramatically when the units are presented with lower amplitude inputs. Much less distortion, much smoother!

In any case, I created my favorite polysynth sound of all time by feeding many VCO's into 2 MOTM-485's in series with both set to LP. Sampled into Kontakt, and voila! killer polysynth. It's the main sound in the demo clip titled "Future" on this page:
