OK -
Will isn't here right now so we won't have the benefit of his
confident 17-year-old insight <g>... But...
I don't like 1G (the Helvetica/Arial-like font) at all - it's too -
hmmmm - straight and predictable for this application. (And I like
helvetica for all kinds of stuff - it's easy to see - that and Times
New Roman - they're standards) But my vote is a strong nix on 1G for
the logo
Beyond that -
In the other 3 cases, I prefer the top example - the one with the text
two-lined and left-justified.
(I think the next down is too long. The top is stronger
because the eye doesn't have to move much to see the entire
name.)
(The one where the logo is centered over the text is more -
well - formal - and that's cool too if that's what you're
after.)
So Saying -
I don't prefer 1F - the square-ish serifs are cool, but they don't
really add much IMHO
So now it comes down to subtleties
1D is cool because of the quirky font - a little sci-fi
1E is cool because of the clean-lined font and the very close
"drupschut" (or kerning)... it has a very concentrated look
So I think I like 1E best. It's got a concise look. It's easy to
see. I think it "says" technical but not so sci-fi.
OK - that's my vote
1E - the top version
Now - so far as font for the rest of the site... although there are
many more pretty fonts, Arial (Helvetica) and New Times Roman are, in
my experience the easiest to see (and therefore read). That's why,
when I was back at Bell Labs, we designed most text in those fonts...
but that doesn't mean it's what you'd want.
Good luck, Paul.
