Subject: Cabinet size and module distance/patch cord length

My modular is built with the dot com cabinets, 26U in width, five
cabinet rows in height, so it's fairly square in shape:

I found, to my surprise, that I use a lot more short cords than long
ones. I have a collection of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6-foot patch cords.
Patching between modules diagonally opposite in the cabinet takes a
six-footer. But I found out that I never need to do this, because of
centrally placed multiples, and also because the modules in the corners
rarely need patching together. Patching through a multiple almost
eliminates the need for five- and six-foot patch cords. In fact,
because of careful overall module arrangement, the need to patch between
distant modules is reduced. I have 30 each of two- and three-foot
cords, and I tend to run out of the two-footers first. Sixteen
four-foot cords seems to be more than enough. I rarely use a
five-footer and never use the six-footers. But I'm thinking of buying
more two-foot cords.
