has anybody checked this outyet? comments? worth buying?
This cookbook is very much oriented towards the beginningsynthesist. The patches are all very simple and use a standardtemplate: 2 VCO, 1 LFO, 1 LPF (either 4 pole or 2 pole), 1 VCA, and 2EGs (for LFP and VCA). You don't need a modular synth to recreate anyof these patches, you can do them all on a Pro-One or MS-20. Using astandard template to work with any synth would normally be quiteproblematic, but the author has thoughtfully included a calibrationsection (and included an audio CD) so you can figure out which knobsetting responds to 1.4 kHz on your filter (for example). Someone witha modest modular synth would likely go much beyond the simplicity ofthese patches.
So is it worth buying? Depends on who you are.
Collector of all things synth: yes.
Beginning synthesist: yes.
Intermediate synthesist: maybe.
Advanced synthesist: no.
