That's a slippery slope, man. The best arpeggiator I used was certainly
ARP-X8 (software) which was nearly as smart/powerful as the KARMA system
in the korg products, but it was a ton more accessible. Software with a
real interface for this stuff is one thing. Fitting it into a module is
another. (Info from the abyss of dead products on ARP-X8, the 8 channel
totally insane arpeggiator:
http://web.archive.org/web/20020124235802/www.technotoys.com/arpx8.htm )
Also, the problem with arpeggiators in a modular system is that you need
to feed them polyphonic data. The only place in a modular where you
usually get polyphonic data is your MIDI-CV converter. Otherwise, you'd
have to pick a preset list of voltages to hop up and down, and that's
not nearly as powerful as an arpeggiator is in a performance setting.
Anyway, I THINK that I would much rather see the 650 ship ASAP without
this feature than face a potentially business-damaging delay as a new
feature was implimented, debugged, tested, fixed, tested again, etc
etc. I don't know what the current code footprint is vs. the amount of
storage on the 650, but I'd hope that paul could add these sorts of
things later on. Even if he can't or won't, we'll live. I mean, it's
already got what looks like the best arpeggiator out there, sooo...
unless there's a way to attach a second module to the thing (an
arpeggiator daughterboard/addon? eh...) it looks like we'll either have
to hope for this as an addon or just give it up.
