Subject: Re: FW: [motm] classic synth records

I go to a local used record store (in Detroit area) and usually find
prog rock stuff - sometimes Gentle Giant or Camel records, which are
always worth the few bucks on the sticker, even if they are not awesome
records. Anything by Rick Wakeman on vinyl (not the latest stuff on CD
with no synths to speak of) would probly be good. There is at least one
Patrick Gleeson album that is only on vinyl - can't think of the title
now. I have a Patrick Gleeson record of Star Wars music (the original
film from 1977) which i suspect is not on CD either - it is very good,
whether you like the music of composer John Williams or not - a little
lexicon of synth sounds, like Tomita records. And of course Tomita
records are great too. Anything on vinyl by Jean Michel Jarre, if you
don't already have it, is worthwhile. My favorite Klaus Schulze records
are the old vinyl ones - i disike the latest, sample based stuff that i
have on CD. I have a Schulze double album titled "X" i believe, which
is great. "Sextant", by Herbie Hancock, although still in print on CD,
is an awesome album, which has Patrick Gleeson on it. The first Jan
Hammer records, also available on CD currently i believe, are good. I
have "The First Seven Days" on CD (a Jan Hammer record) which is awesome
- no one else sounds like him. These all reflect my tastes, of course,
YMMV...

FWIW, I would like to see other people's recommendations too - I usually
carry a list with me of stuff to look for and am always looking for cool
synth records to add to it.
