I had a Moog 1130 Percussion Controller that wasn't working. With the
recent talk of drum triggers I figured I'd spend some time diagnosing
and repairing it. Luckily, it was just a FET that had gone bad and
was easily replaced. There's a picture of it near the bottom of this
page:
http://www.tellun.com/motm/darmok/20060108/20060108.htmlThe circuit board is inside the drum and it gets power from a 6 pin
Cinch-Jones plug. This plugs into the accessory socket on older Moog
gear (Minimoog, Polymoog, etc.). The 1130 outputs a trigger when you
hit the drum and a control voltage that is proportional to how hard
you hit the drum. The circuit outputs both S-Trigger
(Moog/Korg/Yamaha) and V-Trigger (MOTM/Roland) but the cable assembly
only has the Moog 2 pin Cinch-Jones plug for S-Trigger. I added
another phone jack connected to the V-Trigger so I can plug that
directly into Darmok to fire the EGs.
It would be nice to be able use the 1130 with my synth without
requiring the Minimoog/Polymoog for power. I doubt I'll make a panel
just for that purpose, but maybe some day.
It's not quite as fun a controller as the theremin. But I can use it
to trigger those Carl Palmer/Toccata type of sounds.
