So here I am, trudging back home after a manic Day-After-A-Federal-Holiday at the
post office. Hey, I got a package. It's my MOTM-ized Blacet Stonz kit and Socket
Rocket chip. Cool, the day is not a total bummer. I schlep on down to my synth
dungeon/workshop, but instead of opening my box 'o goodies right away, I first log
on to the MOTM list. Traffic on the list has been slow lately, I think to myself.
Then I saw the message from Moe.
After I recovered my senses, I opened my package, did a quick inspection to see that
everything was there, and set it with my "to do" pile (which includes Larry's interval
switches w/serial numbers). It will be a while before I can work on those without my
eyes tearing up.
Larry and Dave "Moe" Bradley (aka "the Stooges") were the first people I emailed with
about MOTM, after Paul S. When Larry posted a note about cheap Power-one supplies
at MPJA, I took adantage of the tip, then confessed my ignorance of the beasts. He
sent me a copy of the spec sheets on his own dime.
In fact, I doubt that Blacet, or anyone else would be MOTM-izing 3rd party modules if
it wasn't for Larry and Moe's conversion tips.
In August, 2001, he mentioned he would be using I-69 on the return leg of his first
run with his new Harley. Since I live near I-69, I suggested he stop by. We rambled on
for the next 5 hours about the art of power transmission (his day gig) as well as
MOTM. We commemorated the event with a picture, at the bottom of this page:
http://www.wiseguysynth.com/larry/harley.htm(The image says it all: H-D and MOTM, the best of the best, forget the rest.)
I met him again at AHMW '04, as well as Moe. Because of screw-ups on my end, I
wasn't able to attend the '05 meet, and was looking forward to seeing the Stooges
this coming spring.
Moe, here's a big bear hug from me. There's a hole in the Stooges that can't be filled.
I've often mused on the fact that Larry was my last new accquaintence before Sept.
11, before the Weird Times, what we will all be refering to as The Good Old Days.
Excuse the bandwidth, I had to get that out of me,
