Subject: What MIDI Controller for MOTM-650?

From: Richard Brewster <pugix@...>

I am taking a big plunge with the 650 by getting into MIDI and a
keyboard. While not a keyboardist, I like the idea of having more
controls. I need some advice about a keyboard. My basic requirements
are at least 37 keys, 61 max, and velocity sensitive. Here are some:

The wood cabinet matches my dot com cabinets perfectly. But the
controls are limited. I am wondering whether something fancier -- if
not as good-looking -- would be more entertaining, such as the following:

Alesis Photon X49:

Korg microKONTROL. But I'm not sure I want mini-keys.

I do not intend to plug this keyboard into a computer. Just MIDI out to
the 650 or my Digi-001. While conceived for that purpose, these should
work without the computer, right? I do have a computer next to the
synth running Windows 98SE and ProTools LE 5.1. So I might take some
advantage.

Your thoughts and experience are much appreciated!

TIA,

Richard Brewster
