Balanced signals require a two-conductor-plus-shield (if needed)
cable. TRS cables provide that, or they can be used for unbalanced
two-signal(like stereo) connections.

Jason is correct, too. The device has balanced or unbalanced ins
and/or outs. TRS cables for audio are ∗usually∗ two-conductor-plus-
shield, but it's best to check the manufacturer specs.
