As a general rule, the static issues of the past are gone ∗with modern parts∗.
The only 'family' still in production that you really have to be careful around
is 4000 series CMOS. The main thing is when you move across carpet (like walking
up to and sitting down to solder), you should always touch something metal (in
my case, it's the lighted magnifier lamp on the workbench).
