Yup - I've seen this syndrome. Mention you have a problem, and suddenly
everyone else has the same problem. Or they think they do. This is really
aggrivating as a developer, and I've seen it in just about all of the beta
tests done on every project I've done. What's even worse is that person A
may have problem X, and person B also now reports that he has problem X,
but really has problem Y or no problem at all. Not only do you have to
deal with problem X, you have to also do damage control so person with
problem Y doesn't pollute person with problem X, or person Z, A, etc...
Look for no bigger example of this than the Pentium FDIV bug. People were
actually claiming that the SUBTRACT function in Windows screwing up beyond
something like 20 decimal places was the Pentium FDIV bug. They were
attributing it to almost anything wrong with their machines. Couple that
with hypersensitivity, and you get some real irrational behaviors. I just
wish people were globally a lot more observant.
Not that this particular issue has anything to do with the issue being
discussed...
