Yow! I extend all sympathies.
I had something like this happen to me - fell through a glass door, it
tried to take off my left hand. Very neatly cut arteries, tendons, but
the biggest damage was the ulnar nerve. Big long surgery. Long recupe
time. Remember I'm a professional cellist? The doctor said I'd be out
at least a year. I commence learning about rudimentary computer music
stuff as a backup career plan (this is 1988!). Anyway, with rigorous
rehab, I got back to playing easy gigs after about 5 months, and was
able to pull off pretty big solo stuff about a year later.
So I hope Rich has a quick recovery as I did, and tell him to keep his
spirits up - that's one of the keys to a good recovery!
