One small observation: since D-shaft knobs and pots force the knob to be
connected to the pot at one specific relative angle, this forces you to line
up your pots on your panel in a specific way. When assembling a panel with
many pots, it's convenient to be able to mount the pots at angles to make
soldering convenient, rather than all at the same orientation. If you use
set-screw pots/knobs you can mount the pots at whatever angle you like and
later mount the knobs at the proper relative angle to make their index marks
line up with the marks on the panel. I hope I'm making sense--this is harder
to describe than I expected. :-)
