Subject: Jealous of Kit Folks

OK, so one more perspective on this delivery time stuff.
I am rather jealous of you kit folks. I have been an assembled module customer
for several years (over 30 Synthtech modules purchased). The delivery times for
the first few years were great and I have enjoyed the modules. I could go the
kit route but I barely have time to use the stuff I have, let alone build it, so
I decided long ago not to go the kit route. That means I miss out on many of
the Stooge variant products too(although I have a few that I will assemble).
I have an outstanding order that includes an assembled MOTM-510 that was placed
in December 2002. I received the prototype of the 510 for AHNE in April of 2004
but had to send it back afterwards. I have not received my assembled module
yet. The last delivery date I received from Paul was the end of January. I
know lots of you folks have had your kits for several months now and it is quite
frustrating to read about you receiving and playing with your 510s (and 480s and
485s) while I try to wait patiently.
I have said to Paul many times that I'm fine with waiting but the biggest
problem is setting the right expectation. Missed dates erode trust and that is
not a good thing for any business. I would much rather have an expectation of
delivery in May and get my modules in April than an expectation of January and
get them in March. Paul says he is working on the assembled module delivery
problem but I have yet to see the results. I am hopeful that it does get
resolved.
I am happy for the kit building folks. Paul and Paul have done a great job
fixing the delivery time issues there. The lesson I have learned from this
experience is to not order anything until I hear about assembled modules being
delivered. That isn't good for Paul's planning but I think it is the only way I
will avoid frustration in the future.
I don't want this to sound like a rant about delivery times but I wanted to
provide some perspective from one of the folks who is trying to be patient out
there.
