Subject: RE: [motm] Zimmer's Modular

Jeff,

Yo da man!

Now I have proof for my wife about how my "affliction" is really quite
mild and could be much, much worse.

While I love the fact that something like that exists, I could never deal
with having that many patch options. There's probably more possibilities
in that room than there are molecules in the universe!

Thanks,
Greg

Subject: [motm] Zimmer's Modular

Note: DO NOT CROSS-POST this message. See below.

I probably shouldn't be doing this, but I just uploaded a few pictures
sent to me by a friend. They show Hans Zimmer's enormous modular synth,
located in his impressive composing studio in Santa Monica. This studio
has a working fireplace, wet bar, several side studios for recording
performers, and a great writing desk for Hans. I've visited many of the
top studios in the world, and this was by far the most impressive I've
seen. I could die in that room.

But I thought you might be interested in the modular synth that takes
up the rear wall of the studio. Pictures don't really give you the
scale of this system. It's about 40-60 feet wide.

There's a semi-circular bay filled mostly with Moog modules, although
there were probably PPG and Polyfusion modules in there too. You can
see this in pic 1:

There are some other high-res pics of his Moog on the synthfool.com
site.

As you go to the right, the center rack was mostly Doepfer when I
visited. It looks like he added some SE gear, perhaps they have MOTM
filters in them? (Hah, I'm on-topic.)

The bay to the opposite end of the Moog is filled mostly with Roland
modules:

PLEASE don't cross-post this to other sites or lists. I wanted to share
this with my MOTM buds, then I'll delete them in about a week. If I see
this on AH, Gas Station or elsewhere, I'll pull the pics immediately.
I'd also appreciate if you don't put these on your own website. I've
twice had someone threaten legal action based on something I put on a
website, so I appreciate your understanding on this matter.

One of these days, when I get to visit again, I'll bring my camera and
take some super-high res pictures of my own. I want to be able to read
the writing on each module. :) Then I'll have full ownership of the
photos and I won't have to be so paranoid.

Enjoy, -jl
