You can change the filter frequency with a CV, not the resonance, on
the 420. You wouldn't normally put a trigger or gate into the FM1/FM2
jacks because they will change the filter frequency abruptly between
two frequencies (gate low and gate high). Although that could be
useful in its own right. I often plug an envelope generator output
into the FM1/FM2 jacks on the 420, or an LFO output, or a sample &
hold.
