Subject: Baroque Synth - mp3 files

From: elhardt@...

No midi files or sequencers were used in any of these MP3's. Every single note is played by hand.

The following are parts of some baroque pieces and were done to try out a number of techniques. I didn't care much about timbre at this point as these are just test pieces and I didn't want to spend more than a day or two. There are also no performance dynamics such as velocity or aftertouch.

The point of this piece was several. 1) To try half speed recording where I record at half speed and an octave lower, then speed up the entire piece after it's all done. That of course can change timbres in unexpected ways, not always to my liking. 2) To to maintain clarity of voices in this highly complex polyphonic piece. 3) My first quadraphonic recording where different voices are coming at me from all around (this is a stereo mixdown of that, the back left/right mixed to the front left/right). This was done with just 9 Doctom modules and a Moogerfooger filter (since I have no Dotcom filter). This is the last half of the first movement to Bach's first harpsichord concerto.

Gear used: Dotcom; 4 oscs, 1 mixer, 2 egs, 2 vcas (one just used as attenuator for moogerfooger), Moogerfooger filter, reverb

The point of this piece was to try 3/4 speed recording and Carlos' hocketing technique. Recorded at 3/4 speed and down a 5th, then sped up when finished.

Nothing special here. Just wanted to get a feel how Corelli might sound synthesized and at a faster than normal tempo. I'm considering doing a suite of movements from his Christmas concerto with a similar feel to Carlos' Monteverdi Orfeo Suite. That will require a lot of time spent on timbres and at getting a moogy sound.
