Subject: Possibly interesting MOTM statistics

From: "Paul Schreiber" <synth1@...>
Date: 2004-06-01

While gutting the computers for upgrades (Memorial Day tradition) and waiting
for defrags of 80GB drives, I came up with these ∗estimates∗ for the parts used
in the MOTM modules to date (April 3, 1998 to May 31, 2004). These are probably
within 5%, I did some rounding off and probably mis-added several places. But
it's close :)

BTW: not bragging, slagging, bashing or gloating. Just trying to figure out, as
my wife says, "If you're do damn smart, how come we aren't rich?"

Modules shipped: 5145 (about 10% are assembled, rest kits)
Most popular: MOTM-800 EG (around 700)
Least popular: MOTM-390 VC LFO (guessing 75)

Rack Rails shipped: 723 pairs, or 2290 FEET (end-to-end)

Pots/Knobs: ~41,000 (1 pot + 1 knob)
Jacks (all types): ~30,500
Resistors: ~165,000
Caps: ~71,000
Hardware: ~287,500 (every friggin' screw, washer, trim pot, connector, etc)
Plastic bags: ~61,200 (yes, I feel guilty for all that land fill)
Wire: ~49,000 pieces (somewhere around 6 miles, end-to-end)
Switches: ~5400 (toggle + power)
ICs/Diodes/Transistors: ~58,000

Total parts (not including front panels or brackets, come to think of it!):
~755,000

Whew! That's a LOT of stuff, IMHO :)

OK, back to work......
