Subject: RE: [motm] MOTM Forums? I'll host 'em...

From: Mark Mayhem <SkinMatrix@...>

Hey all,

Even though I have yet to actually order any modules I
do have rack rails and a compatible power supply. So I
am going to pipe in here. :) It was a very wise
decision not to split the community. Actually, it
probably would have ultimatly cost Paul (eventual)
sales from me.

Here's why:

I hate forums.
I am an ardent researcher.

I don't purchase without research (in some cases years
of research (∗cough∗motm∗cough∗)) especially not
something that is big ticket. If a good amount of the
information was in forum format, for me, it may as
well not even exist. So while I have decided now that
I will be going MOTM (and Blacet), pending graduation
in June and securing of full time work, if any new
products were discussed on a forum, especially
products with high price tags and obscure functions, I
may never learn anymore than what it says on the
website, and in turn may never buy one.

When the idea of a forum was mentioned a chill
literally went down my spine.

My whole point being that while e-mail may not be
everyones favourite way of communicating, I am
relatively sure no one _hates_it, I can't say the same
thing about forums, and in an industry this small,
with profits already pretty thin (as has been pointed
out by several manufacturers), I think the potential
loss of even one sale makes my point pretty salient.

I can't be the only forum hating, research monkey out
there.

That's it, differing opinions welcomed,

Mark
