Subject: [motm] Emulating Doepfer Modules with MOTM
Doepfer has a bunch of unique modules and I was trying to figure out how to
program their behavior on the MOTM. Here are some tips on how to emulate
those modules.
1) Doepfer A150 Dual VC-Switch. Easily emulated with the MOTM-700 Dual VC
Router since it's basically a more flexible version of the Doepfer module.
2) Doepfer A162 Daul Trigger Delay used to delay a trigger. Easiest to use
the MOTM-850 Pedal Interface with an extra EG. Run the output of that EG
into the Mix input then the gate output on the 850 into the EG you want to
delay. Use the gate threshold on the 850 and the Attack on the first EG to
set the delay time. Nice thing is this acts as a gate delay, not just a
trigger delay as on the Doepfer. The MOTM-700 can also be used as a gate
delay also using an extra EG like above. Note that these methods and also
the Doepfer module only work well if the delay time is shorter than the
interval between notes being played.
3) Doepfer A165 Sequential Switch used to bounce back and forth between
multiple inputs to one output or multiple outputs from one input. I like to
use this to alternate between two sounds when a note is played (similar to
Carlos' up-bow, down-bow demonstration). Needs an MOTM-120 Sub-Octave Mux,
two MOTM-830 mixers, two MOTM-800 EGs. Run keyboard gate through IN2 on
mixer #1, set knob to -5, set bias knob to 0.5 --> IN on MOTM-120 SUB2
Output --> MOTM-800 #1 Gate. So far this will sound a note every other key
depress. Now split off that same SUB2 output and run it through the IN2 on
mixer #2, set knobs the same as above --> MOTM-800 #2 Gate. The end effect
is that you can trigger one sound every odd note and another sound every
even
note.
