Subject: Re: [motm] Jack Mounted Brackets?

John, I do plan to have a Stooge bracket similar to what you describe.
Here is what my plan is. I had hoped to actually order these a couple of
weeks ago. But, I have not been able to make it to the metal shop because
of the day gig. I am planning what I call a modular bracket. Some
assembly required.

The problem with jack only brackets is how many jacks and how far apart. I
also thought it might be nice to have a bracket that could mount from a
combination of jacks and maybe a single pot. So, here is what I cam up
with.

I will have 3 new pieces of metal:
1. A "L" shaped bracket that is only 2 jacks wide and about 3.5 inches
deep. One of the jack holes will be slotted side to side similar to my pot
holes in the other brackets to allow for some slop in jack spacing.
2. A "L" shaped bracket that is one pot wide and 3.5 inches deep.
3. A flat mounting plate 3" x 6"

Items # 1 and 2 will have dual purpose. First, you can use them to add
small daughterboards to existing modules. Secondly, a pair (mix or match)
can serve as the front panel connection for the flat plate. Your panel
design will decide how far apart you space them and how you attach the 3" x
6" plate to them. One could drill and screw. I was thinking about pop
rivets for mine.

So, If you wanted a bracket for something like the CGS dual ASR, you would
buy 2 each of item # 1 and one of item # 3. You put one 2 jack bracket on
upper jacks. You put the second jack bracket on lower jacks. You span
these two small brackets with the flat plate. You mark the holes (the "L"
brackets will have holes for mounting stuff) onto the flat plate and drill
them to match whatever spacing you need. You drill holes in the 3" x 6"
plate for your PCB mounting.

I have no idea if this idea will take off with people. I am only going to
order a small quantity and hence need to combine with another metal order
(which I am about to do). If they work out for people (translate: anyone
buys any) I will make more.

Larry

A while back someone gave a URL that had pictures of PCB brackets that were
shaped for mounting on jacks (for modules that dont have pots).

Also, is this a bracket that the Stooges may sell one day?
