Hey Paul,
I'd stay away from Mellotrons.
I used to have two of those beasts with different tapes.
I used to have to keep the front panels off so I could reach down
and unsnag the tapes while I was playing live.
BTW, the new EMU Vintage Proteus module has the best mellotron
samples I've ever heard, much preferred over the original and much
less expensive as well.
I've had friends get some good deals on guitars at pawn shops but
I've never seen a worthwhile keyboard in one.
