thought is was going to be easy, so I wasn't careful enough.

Except for the the pot on the 700, none of these were mistakes, they
were design modifications.
Here a neat trick: patch a sine wave into the CV input of a 700 in
voltage mode, with +5V on one input (or +5V and -5V into each input)
you get square wave and the knob controls pulse width. Use an 800 as
the voltage source and you can play notes without a VCA.
