Subject: MOTM-101 External Clock Mod

From: media.nai@...
Date: 2003-04-27

This modification adds an external clock output to an MOTM-101. It
is not a square clock, but a short pulse of about 7V that works fine
with the UEG, 320, 800, etc. This mod does not seem to effect the
performance of the 101. While this modification is done entirely on
the panel, and does not alter the PCB in any way, you should not
attempt this mod if you are a complete idiot...

Otoh, I went ahead and modded mine anyway:

1. With the PCB removed from the panel, drill a hole in the panel
and install a new jack. There are drilling instructions and a parts
list on Moe's web page.

2. Assemble the module with the modified panel.

3. Get two 1K resistors, two 3" pieces of hook-up wire, and an inch
of 1/8" heat shrink tubing. Strip 3/8" of an inch of insulation off
of each piece of wire.

4. Bend the end of one wire into a "J" shape, bend one end of one of
the 1K resistors into a "J" shape. Hook them together and solder
with "No Clean".

5. Attach one end of the resistor-wire to the TOP lug of the EXT
CLOCK jack. It should already have a grey wire you should leave
attached. Slip the heat shrink over the wire, and attach the other
end to the LEFT of the new jack. Do not solder.

6. Attach the second wire from the BEVELED lug of the new jack, to
another grounded BEVELED lug (I used VIBRATO).

7. Attach the second 1K resistor from the BEVELED lug of the new
jack to the LEFT lug of the new jack. The two resistors form a
voltage divider. The TOP lug of the new jack is unused.

8. Solder. Shrink the tubing.

Monkey tested. Monkey approved.
