Subject: Why did you pick the cable colors that you did?

Hello all,
There was a little talk about the reasons why certain cable color
combinations were picked. I'm wondering what kind of systems other
people came up with in the group.
I picked one of each cable color in each length. For each set of
similar length cables I used the same color heatshrink. The 2' cable
set has one color heatshrink, 3' another color, and so on... I can
pick out the right cable length from a rat's nest of cables by the
color of the heatshrink. The different cable colors help me trace
them
quickly in a patch. The heatshrink helps me verify that I really did
follow the right cable in a patch.
Unfortunately I had to give up a lot of combinations that I wanted
with this system.
Recently I had a bad experience where I was in a performance
situation and relied on using cables with 1/4 inch jack on one end
and
1/8" on the other. I was hampered all night because I'd go to pick up
a 1/4" to 1/4" or an 1/8" to 1/8" cable and grab a 1/4" to 1/8." By
the end of the night I decided that I would go back to using only
1/4"
to 1/4" and 1/8" to 1/8" with 1/4" adapters where needed. This
inspired me to adopt a standardized cabling system to avoid
confusion.
Hopefully soon the weather will change so I'll be able to convert all
my 1/8" modules to 1/4".
Ok... enough talk from me...
So why did you do the things
