Same here. I use black for the shortest cables (1 footers) and white
for the longest cables (6 footers). I have a rainbow of colours
between the two in 1 foot increments, the darker the hue the shorter
the cable.
How do you estimate the number of cables you'll need? For the upper
bound, I count up the total number of jacks in my modular and divide
by two. For the lower bound I divide the total number of jacks by
four. To estimate the total number of jacks, I use 4 jacks per U as
an average. I build cables as I add more modules. I just manage to
stay ahead of the lower bound and so far, so good.
