This is what makes sense to me too. If you have lots of different
combinations, then you will not have many (if any) of the same color combos
in the same patch. With 81 different combination possibilities you won't
have too many duplicate colors in a patch.

To me, the primary (hey, a pun!) advantage with having different color
cables is the ability to instantly know where each cable is patched to.
