Subject: status of cables

Thanks for all those that responded about cables. If you were thinking
about responding and did not, please take time to do so. I say this because
the quantity indicated by those that did respond is probably not sufficient
to justify me making a large group buy for cables.

I am still getting price quotes based on lower quantity. But, it appears
that the savings may be so small that if I put any reasonable mark up on the
cables they would be about the same price you could probably get them
elsewhere yourself in smaller quantities.

And, it seems that 15 people have 15 different ideas about how cables ought
to be. Some like cloth; some don't. Some want massive tech specs, some
want better price. No one agrees on heat shrink color strategy. (I can
probably deal with that one effectively).

Basically, I am now looking at a Rapco manufacturing a Belden cable with
either a Switchcraft 280 jack of one that Neutrek makes that is identical in
size (not the tapered one). I am leaning away from cloth cable because the
specs for that cable are not near as good (although at 10V signal levels, I
think it is all good enough). I want to personalize the heatshrink with
something like "synthesis technology" or "MOTM" with Paul's permission or
"Stooge cables" or "wise guy synth" or "??" Of course, opinions are welcome
from anyone expressing an interest in buying cables.

So, I will keep gathering cable specs and prices / options and report back
in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, if you are interested in cables and
have not written me, this would be the time to do so. The future of this
endeavor is completely in your hands.
