Subject: Soldering Iron Temps

From: "Kevin Loper" <kloper@...>

I recently upgraded my soldering iron from a hobby grade Weller
model to the venerable Weller WTCPT. I prefer using the long conical
tips (PT0n) but the only one my vendor had in stock at the time was
the PT08 (8 = 800 degrees F). I know that Paul recommends the
700 degree tips, so my question: are the 800 degree tips too hot
for the job? I really don't want to wait for a mail order of the 700 degree
tips to arrive before I resume soldering.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
Kevin
