If my memory has not gone south, I think the very first Sequencial Circuits
MIDI synth (the Prophet 600) indeed used XLR as the factory installed
connector. But, I think they used the 3 pin standard XLR since MIDI still
only uses 2 wires plus sheild.

Oh, I agree 100% - standard 5 pin DIN. I'd even vote for the Neutrik
football connector over a non-standard connector.
